Richard Arrowood is an iconic wine master who has been making wine exclusively in Sonoma County for more than for 50-plus years. When he resigned his position to devote himself full-time to making wines for his estate winery, Amapola Creek Vineyards and Winery. Our ranch consists of approximately 100 acres along the sun-washed western slope of the Mayacamas Mountains adjacent to the highly-acclaimed Monte Rosso Vineyard. These red, iron-oxide soils have yielded superb wines for well over a
century. We have planted approximately 20 acres of organically certified estate vines to continue in that tradition
The nose on this wine opens up quickly with big layers of black plum and brambleberry. Swirl the glass, and you will find the nose developing notes of mocha and cedar under the fruit, with just a hint of crushed black pepper. Take a sip and you will find bright red fruit underscored with light carmelized sugar. The acidity is crisp and lends to the intensity of the fruit, which quickly opens into characters of summer blackberry and juicy plums. The tannins are rich and full, and carry the palate through to a finish brimming with toasty vanilla and red licorice. Enjoy now to 10-plus years from the vintage date.
