The Single Malts of Scotland Director's Special Ben Nevis 1996 is a rare Highland single malt selected by Elixir Distillers. Distilled in 1996, it matured for 27 years in a single hogshead, cask #1744, yielding only 228 bottles. The nose combines matcha chocolate, lychee, raspberry leaf, wood spice, honeyed citrus and ripe guava. The palate is dense and oily with dried mango, peach, bay leaf, tarragon, blood orange, grapefruit, nutmeg and white chocolate. Bottled at 49.5% ABV, the finish lingers with cinnamon, dark honey and increasingly pronounced grapefruit.
