The Santi Amarone della Valpolicella Proemio 2013 is a full-bodied red wine from the Veneto region of Italy. It is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes, with an alcohol content of 16%. \n The wine is characterized by ripe, bold flavors and has a dark ruby red color with a delicate garnet rim. \n It also has notes of uva passa, cherry, dried plum, vanilla, violet, and cinnamon. \n Aromas of mocha, cedar and baked plum slowly take shape on this robust red. The forward palate offers prune, cocoa and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins.\n \n Producer Information\n Santi is a wine producer based in northeast Italy, best known for its production of classic Italian wines including Soave Classico, Valpolicella, Amarone, and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. The estate's history dates back to 1843 when Carlo Santi established a wine cellar in Illasi, a village near Lake Garda within the province of Verona. Today, Santi produces many of its wines with estate-grown fruit, and also sources grapes from growers with which it has long-standing relationships. The wines are still produced at the original winery, which has been renovated to include a modern winemaking facility and aging cellar. Santi emphasizes international winemaking techniques like aging wines in new French oak barriques to accommodate modern tastes and improve wine quality. The estate's flagship, Sortesele, is made from Pinot Grigio produced with fruit grown along the Adige valley in limestone, sand and clay soils. Another top white, the Soave Classico, is made from 90 percent Garganega and 10 percent Trebbiano, and is aged sur lie in stainless steel tanks for seven months before filtration and bottling. Santi's top selection wine is an Amarone della Valpolicella named Proemio. It is made with Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes from several of Santi's top vineyards, where the vines are as much as 40 years old. The harvested grapes are left to dry in wooden boxes for almost five months prior to vinification. The wine then ages three years in Santi's cellars before bottling.
