2019 was a near perfectly ‘normal’ cool-climate Santa Barbara vintage. The kind of normal it feels like we rarely see anymore. Plenty of rainfall early in the year and moderate summer weather gave us an even growing\n season and a balanced crop. Chardonnay and Pinot began ripening in early-mid September. We didn’t see the super extreme heat during the beginning of harvest, allowing for a steady and civilized pick schedule. The 2019 wines show good flavor concentration and depth from the extra hangtime, while still retaining their balance and freshness.\n Clean but very expressive aromas of chalk, Key lime spray, Meyer lemon peel, lychee and a hint of lemongrass show on the nose of this appellation blend. The palate is fresh and mineral-laden, offering flavors of white rocks, baked lemons and butter flakes.\n \n Producer Information\n SAMsARA produces limited releases of Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Grenache from carefully selected micro-sites within Sta. Rita Hill’s most distinctive vineyards. The resulting wines are an interpretation of the tenuous balance between the power of natural elements beyond our control and the human desire to reach perfection. New England natives, Dave and Joan Szkutak, share a fundamental love of travel and all things enological. They help guide SAMsARA as vintners and work closely with winemaker Matt Brady, supporting his creative decisions in both the vineyard and the cellar.
