Einaudi Barolo “Ludo†DOCG is brilliant garnet with amber highlights. The nose has notes of red berry, tobacco and spices, the wine is full-bodied with a long velvety finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a wine producer in Piedmont, northern Italy. It is particularly well known for its Dogliani DOCG wines produced from the Dolcetto grape, as well as its range of Barolos. The estate was founded in 1897 when the 23-year-old Luigi Einaudi bought the San Giacomo farm in Dogliani with 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards. Over the years, Einaudi rose to prominence as an economist and politician, eventually becoming President of the first Republic of Italy in 1948. Despite this, Einaudi was known for never missing a harvest. Today, Poderi Luigi Einaudi owns 11 properties with around 145 hectares (358 acres) of vineyards. The vast majority of these are in Dogliani, with just 7ha (17 acres) dedicated to Barolo. The winery was in full production as early as the 1920s, but was completely renovated in 1993. The majority of the facilty is underground which assures constant temperature and humidity. Red wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks with automatic pump overs, and are matured in a combination of barriques and larger barrels made from French oak. Einaudi's core release is the Dogliani DOCG Dolcetto, aged in stainless steel tanks, which accounts for around half of the estate's annual 320,000 bottles. Einaudi also makes a more premium Dolcetto wine, Vigna Tecc, which is a Dogliani Superiore from selected vineyard parcels that spends a year aging in oak. The Barolo lineup includes wines from the Cannubi and Terlo vineyards, as well as a standard Barolo and a Barolo Chinato. The portfolio also includes Barbera Piemonte, Langhe Nebbiolo and Langhe Bianco Chardonnay, a Moscato d'Asti, and a Dolcetto grappa.
