The Pio Cesare Barbera d’Alba 2021 is made using 100% grapes that are aged for 12 months in large French oak “botti” before bottling and is deep ruby in colour. The nose is full of black cherry, blackberry and spice aromas. The palate is full and well-balanced with really good structure and a smooth finish. A fantastic expression of the Barbera grape variety.\n\nEstablished in 1881, Pio Cesare, now run by fifth generation Pio Boffa, was one of the first producers to see the potential and quality in the great wines of Piedmont. Today, their vineyards span 70 hectares throughout the region, including Barbaresco and Barolo. Pio applies a ‘minimal intervention’ philosophy to winemaking, creating wines that year after year, are ranked among the world’s best.
