Dating from the 16th century in the village of Bouzeron in Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise, Maison Chanzy owns 79 acres of vineyard supplying grapes for 80% of its production, which is focused on the appellations Bourgogne, Bouzeron, Rully and Mercurey. A signature wine of the estate comes from its Clos de la Fortune Monopole vineyard in Bouzeron. The Maison also produces wines from an impressive range of Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits appellations including several 1er and Grands Crus.\n\nAfter its purchase in 2012 by an investment group, management of the Maison was entrusted to the young, highly regarded Jean- Baptiste Jessiaume, who is in charge of overall operations and vinification. Jean-Baptiste was named Cote de Beaune Young Winemaker of the Year in 2012. His uncle, Pascal Jessiaume, is responsible for viticulture. Their family has 160 years of experience spanning 5 generations as growers and winemakers in nearby Santenay.\n\nThe Maison’s cellars have been modernized and the vineyards, which average between 30 and 45 years of age, are being revitalized with an eye toward conversion from sustainable to organic farming. Operations are carried out in conjunction with the lunar calendar. Strict sorting is done in the vineyard and again in the cellar. Chanzy is one of a growing number of wineries that play music in their cellars during malolactic fermentation (in this case Mozart), which they feel enhances aromatic purity, precision and tension in the wines.
