Extremely linear and structured with a dense center palate of dark fruits and hints of stone. Full to medium body, powerful and polished tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Tightly wound ball here. Exciting.\n Producer Information\n Viña Real is a Spanish winery and offshoot brand of the Rioja producer Compañia Vinicola del Norte España (CVNE). It is best known for Tempranillo-dominant red blends, as well as a rosé and barrel-aged white wine from Viura. It emerged in 1920 as a single-vineyard bottling from vines in Elciego, though the exact location of the original parcel of vines has since been forgotten. It has its own winery independent of CVNE, as is the case with CVNE's two other brands, Imperial and Contino. The Viña Real winery itself consists of three buildings with the main structure built from red cedar in the likeness of a fermenting vat. Viña Real is based in Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa and produces a collection of red wines at Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva levels, the latter being the highest quality and smallest production. The winery also produces a limited-production of Fermentado en Barrica, a Viura wine sourced from 20-year-old vines in Alavesa, Elciago and Laguardia. It is fermented and aged in Hungarian oak barrels of varying capacities and ages.
