Flavors of apricot and pear deepen the impression from the nose, along with exotic notes of pineapple and mandarin orange. A distinct texture lightly coats the mouth, as this wine remains both round and crisp all the way through to the fruity yet dry finish.\n \n Producer Information\n \n Conundrum Wines is a brand and winery in Monterey County. It makes two mid-priced proprietary blends, one red and one white, from fruit sourced from several California viticultural regions. Common varieties used are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel. The winery began as a brand of the Wagner family's winery, Caymus Vineyards. Caymus was established in 1972 and the family has since established a handful of other California wineries under the Wagner Family of Wine group. Conundrum's first commercial vintage was in 1989 when it was released as Caymus Conundrum. It was initially just a single white blend made at a time when California wines were more commonly varietally designated. By 2001 Conundrum had become popular in its own right and Caymus had gained a reputation for its high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, so the decision was made for Conundrum to become its own independent brand. The winemaking was relocated from Caymus' Rutherford location to its own winery in Monterey County. In 2011, Conundrum introduced a red blend. The fruit for both wines is sourced from all over the state including vineyards in Napa, Monterey, Santa Barbara, and San Benito, and wines carry the all-encompassing California appellation designation on their labels. The blend can vary based on vintages, but the white is predominantly made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Viognier, while the red uses Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, among others.
