A decadent nose of coffee beans, treacle tart, plum liqueur, ash, asphalt, tar, chocolate-coated plums and cedar. Extremely full and intense with so much dense dark-fruit character, layers of fruit, a fine line of acidity and a long finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Cantina Buglioni is an Italian estate situated in the northeastern wine-producing region of Veneto. Its wine portfolio is almost exclusively dedicated to the wines of Valpolicella – namely Amarone della Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto della Valpolicella and Valpolicella Classico Superiore. Founded in 1993, Cantina Buglioni initially consisted of just 3 hectares (7 acres) of vineyards, with an additional 2ha (5 acres) planted with olive trees. Today, the vineyard covers 46ha (114 acres), mainly planted to the classic grape varieties synonymous with Valpolicella: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. These plots have been complemented with more recent plantings of the rare Oseleta grape variety, as well as the more well-known Croatina and Garganega grape varieties. The vines are planted on gravel-rich alluvial soils, and only 40 percent of the total yield is used to produce Cantina Buglioni's portfolio of wines. Harvest is carried out by hand and the wines aged in small oak barrels. The grapes destined for the estate's range of passito wines are dried in a facility situated at Cantina Buglioni's vineyard in San Pietro, Cariano. The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva is a prime example of this passito style and is only produced in the best vintages. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand to ensure only those of the highest quality are selected. These grapes are then dried, fermented and aged in oak barriques for two years, followed by a minimum of 18 months in bottle. In addition to its collection of still red wines, Cantina Buglioni also makes several spumante Brut wines from its Molinara, Garganega and Durella grape varieties, as well as a Bianco delle Venezie and a Grappa di Recioto della Valpolicella.
