With plenty of floral-honey, caramelized-pear and some melon aromas, medium-full body and a creamy texture, this is a very classic Alsace pinot gris. But it is drier than most with a nice touch of positive tannin at the clean finish.

Producer Information
Domaines Schlumberger is a wine producer in Alsace, in northeast France. Its vineyard holdings are the largest in the region, with a combined size of 135 hectares (333 acres). They are planted to classic Alsatian varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Muscat, Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc, as well as some plantings of Pinot Noir. There are multiple ranges within the domaine’s portfolio. Schlumberger’s single vineyard grand cru wines are sourced from the Saering, Kessler, Kitterle and Spiegel vineyards and are produced from Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer. The domaine’s entry-level range is the Princes Abbés wine, which are a collection of varietal wines based on the six noble Alsace varieties as well as Pinot Noir. These are named in homage of the Prince Abbots, monks who were the first to sell wine in Guebwiller and who took care of the vineyards that would one day form the basis of Domaines Schlumberger. The domaine is located in Guebwiller, at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Grape vines have been grown here since 1810, when Nicolas Schlumberger brought approximately 20 hectares (50 ac) of vines as a congratulatory present to himself after he had set up a successful textile factory in Guebwiller, Alsace. The domaine itself was established in the early 1970s when Eric Beydon Schlumberger took over the business and began replanting the vineyards. He introduced vineyard terracing along the steep Vosges Mountains, and built dry stone walls to help protect against future erosion. Domaine Schlumberger is still a family-owned and operated estate.
