crystallum the agnes chardonnay is a wood-aged white wine made by crystallum with the chardonnay variety in walker bay, on the south coast of the western cape (south africa). crystallum is a family winery located in the south african region of walker bay. there, the brothers andrew and peter-allan, the third generation, continue the legacy of pioneering parents and grandparents in the production of pinot noir wines in the region. crystallum the agnes chardonnay comes from five vineyards in the renowned wine-growing regions of hemel-en-aarde and overberg. agriculture that is respectful of the environment is practiced and the harvest is carried out just at the optimum moment of ripeness. crystallum the agnes chardonnay is vinified in the cellar according to the traditional method of transferring the whole bunches of grapes directly to the press and taking the must to a settling tank. the wine then ferments and ages in 228 and 500 liter french oak barrels, of which 10% are new, for 9 months in barrels. crystallum the agnes chardonnay was born as a tribute to the winemaker’s great-grandmother, agnes floyd. a brave woman who arrived in south africa when she was only 14 years old and who, like hers, stood out for her strong, resilient and complex personality. crystallum the agnes chardonnay 2021 is a creamy white. it is exotic on the nose, with hints of white peach, papaya, jasmine and lemongrass. on the palate it is acidic but enveloping, with flavors of caramel, lemon curd.
