It’s a wine still in development, bursting with young black-currant and black-plum fruits as well as acidity.
Producer Information
Château Boutisse is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine producer. Located in the northeast commune of Saint Christophe des Bardes, it produces a Merlot-based Bordeaux blend sourced from 25 hectares (61 acres) of estate vineyards. The grand vin blends 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Carménère as well as 88 percent Merlot – the exact portions of which depend on the vintage. After fermentation, aging takes place both in barrel and underground in concrete tanks and as of 2020, the use of amphoras has been employed. Vines average around 35 years of age. The first mention of the estate dates back to 1783 where it is visible on the map of Guyenne produced by the king’s geographer engineer, Pierre de Belleyme. Since 1996, Château Boutisse has been owned by the Xavier Milhade Wine Group of which also counts Château Recougne and Château Tour Bayard within its holdings. The Château takes its named from the ’boutisse’ calcareous soil type.
