The little-known Durif grape (a.k.a. Petite Sirah) has found a comfortable home in the Suisun Valley just southeast of Napa. A crossing of Syrah and Peloursin, it shows plush flavours of sugared plum and blueberry syrup accompanied by spicy notes of crushed peppercorns and a hint of fresh violet.
A regal garnet red, plush and evocative on the nose- scents of beef ribs cooked over an open fire mingle with potpourri and dark plums. Hits the palate with a luxurious softness, then fills every corner of the mouth. This wine is a striking combination, highly structured yet featuring extravagant flavors of dark fruit. Tannins are grainy, intense, round and extremely fine. The finish trails off slowly, a callback to the nose, with traces of potpourri and un sweetened, powdered cacao. Can be enjoyed now and also has tremendous aging potential.
