Dried fig and roasted almond notes leap from the glass in this finely balanced and creamy Marsala, in a dry style. Hints of singed orange peel and ground clove linger on the finish. Producer Information The Marchesi Alfieri is a historical winery settled in the baroque castle of San Martino Alfieri between Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero hills. Giovanna, Antonella, and Emanuela run the company since 1983, with Mario Olivero acting as the chief winemaker and director of the company since 1999. The company owns 21 hectares of vineyards and produces around 130,000 bottles of wine each year. You can find history, wine culture, and warm hospitality, all at the same estate here. The estate vineyards are located on the gentle slopes and are around 70 years old but still grow high-quality grapes. Most of the production is of the historic local Barbera grape while the rest includes Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, and Grignolino. The Guyot system is used to cultivate vines, and grape clusters are thinned to reduce the yield and increase the overall quality of the grapes. Harvesting is done manually and begins in September and goes on till October.
