The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Verchère Vieilles Vignes is rich and dramatic, bursting with aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit, peaches and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with a ripe core of fruit, succulent acids and an expansive finish, it's a muscular, concentrated wine that is already very demonstrative.\n \n Producer Information\n Domaine Barraud is a wine producer based in the Maconnais region of Burgundy. The estate specializes in producing Chardonnay-based wines from three of the region's key appellations: Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Villages and Saint-Véran. Founder Jean-Marie Barraud acquired his first plots of land in 1912. The domaine expanded significantly a decade later under the management of Joseph and Marguerite Barraud, and in 1947 Domaine Barraud released its first cuvée, Les Crays. Daniel Barraud inherited Domaine Barraud in 1979 and developed both the estate's vineyard holdings and its portfolio. Julien Barraud later joined the established family business in 2006. The domaine's vineyard parcels are planted on chalk, limestone and clay soils, overlooked by the rock of Solutré and Vergisson. The Mâcon-Villages vineyards are situated in Mâcon-Chaintré, Mâcon-Fuissé and Mâcon-Vergisson, and were planted between the years of 1982 and 1990. In Saint-Véran, Domaine Barraud cultivates three parcels, producing three wine labels: Arpège, En Crèches and Les Pommards. Les Pommards is made from 40-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on northeast-facing slopes. The domaine's vines in Pouilly-Fuissé are some of its oldest, with parcels planted as far back as 1934 and the majority more than 60 years old. In general, the wines made from Domaine Barraud's parcels in Pouilly-Fuissé are aged in barrel for 12 months and, after racking, are aged for a further two to three months in stainless steel tanks. In comparison, the Saint-Véran plots are vinified in varying combinations of barrels and tanks, with half of the En Crèches aged in barrel and the remainder in 600L wooden casks.
