The Domaine Menard-Gaborit, in the AOC Muscadet Sevre et Maine wine-growing area in the Loire Valley, produces high quality wines combining tradition and savoir-faire.
The Domaine Menard-Gaborit dates back to 1734 and the existence of vineyards around the Moulin de la Miniere is confirmed by Napoleon III's 1857 Land Registry.
In 1914 the Domaine moved into the modern era with the construction of the ageing cellar, an avant-garde concept at the time. In 1947, the wine was bottled for the first time, by the great-grandfather of the present owners. Selling wine bottled at the Domaine considerably increased turnover through the 1950s.
Major milestones also include the expansion of the business in 2001, with the purchase of the neighbouring 23 hectares, increasing the Domaine Menard-Gaborit vineyard to 73 hectares.
The present generation is represented by Philippe Menard, who started working in the family business in 1983. Philippe was trained by his father, Andre, and became an associate in 1988. He was joined by his brother Thierry in 1991 for a new stage in the development of the Domaine Menard-Gaborit.
