The 2020 W.S. Keyes Chardonnay opens with a complimentary nose of white peach and other orchard fruit, jasmine, and almond. On the palate, a mineral-drenched core of red and green apples is complicated by maple butter, white pepper, and toast. The overarching compilation of fruit, floral, savory, and spice is remarkable, conveying both energy and richness in this complex bottle.
Built of stone in 1898, La Jota Vineyard Co. has deep roots in Napa Valley’s winemaking history. Today, Winemaker Chris Carpenter produces small quantities of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the winery’s estate La Jota Vineyard and nearby W.S. Keyes Vineyard. The wines capture the intense fruit and mineral complexity of their cool-climate location on Howell Mountain.
