Producer Information
Azienda Agricola Capanna is a Tuscan wine estate best known for its Brunello and Moscadello di Montalcino wines. The estate was founded in 1957 by Guiseppe Cencioni, who was one of the 25 founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. The estate began bottling its own wines in the 1960s, and today is still owned and run by the Cencioni family. The vineyards cover around 20 hectares (50 acres) in the Montosoli area to the north of Montalcino village. Sangiovese makes up the bulk of plantings, but there is around 3ha (7 acres) of Moscato Bianco, plus some Merlot and Pinot Grigio. In the winery, the Sangiovese is fermented in truncated cone-shaped wooden tanks with automated temperature control and pump overs. The other wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the Capanna wines are aged in Slavonian oak casks of varying sizes. Capanna’s portfolio includes a standard and Riserva Brunello di Montalcino, a Rosso di Montalcino, plus a standard and late harvest Moscadello di Montalcino. There is also a Sant’Antimo Rosso that combines Merlot with Sangiovese, and the portfolio also includes a Toscana IGT wine based on Sangiovese, a Pinot Grigio wine and a trio of grappas.
