Additional Information

When a man plants a vineyard where, by all rights, no vineyard should be planted, it’s seen as folly. When the vineyard becomes one of the world’s best sites for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it’s called vision. We are guided by the pioneering spirit of our namesake, Uriel J. Nielson, who planted Santa Barbara’s first commercial vineyard in 1964. This underdog wine region is unpretentious, yet meticulous, and home to pioneers and adventurers who are driven by the love of the vine. The Nielson

Vineyard in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Maria Valley AVA is our home and represents the legacy of boldness, risk-taking and experimentation embraced by our founders and carried on by our winemaking team today. Nielson’s Winemaker Ryan Pace is a Central Coast native from the Santa Ynez Valley. Ryan traveled to 35 countries and worked at 9 wineries on 4 continents in both hemispheres, before returning home to the Central Coast to craft Nielson’s Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Ryan employs small lot winemaking techniques such as hand pruning, block-by-block harvesting, barrel fermentations and lees stirring to create wines that express the purity and diversity of Santa Barbara’s cool-climate, coastal AVAs.

Tasting Notes

This red wine delivers aromas of dark cherry, cinnamon and campfire. Flavors of red fruit and violets accompanied by a distinctive earthiness on the palate, finishing very smooth on the finish.
