Mt. Brave produces staggeringly intense and complex wines from its high altitude estate vineyard in the Mt. Veeder AVA, located in the Mayacamas Mountains. First planted to grapes in the 1860s, this wild and isolated winegrowing region features panoramic views, sparse soils, steep terrain and some of the lowest yields in the Napa Valley. Despite being the largest AVA in Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder produces less than 2% of all its wines. For more than 150 years, determined winegrowers have farmed
this mountain landscape, where many thought the conditions too severe, too extreme and too lacking in promise. Nutrients and minerals are scant, resulting in tiny berries with intense flavor and ripe tannins. The vineyard is famous for its rugged terrain, where virtually all work in the vineyard must be done by hand. At harvest, small boxes must be hand-carried up and down the steep slopes to protect both vines and vineyard workers.
