The palate is an explosion of delicate flavors, nice and delightful mouthfeel. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Giesen is a family-owned and operated winery located in Marlborough wine region of New Zealand. It was established in 1981 by Giesens, who had come to New Zealand’s Canterbury region from Germany to plant Riesling. Now, operations have moved north to Marlborough, and the focus has shifted to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The flagship of the Giesen portfolio is The August, a Sauvignon Blanc named after the brothers’ grandfather. Unlike a majority of Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, The August is fermented in barrel with indigenous yeast and aged on the lees for almost a year before bottling to create a richer expression of the variety. There are several other wines in the collection, produced from Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris as well as Merlot and Pinot Noir that all focus on varietal expressions. The latest innovation from Geisen is a range of low and no alochol wines produced from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Spinning cone technology is utilized to seperate alcohol from the wine whilst preserving flavor and aroma compounds. Grapes are sourced from a combination of estate vineyards and externally sourced, all located within the Wairau Valley.
