TP95 – Tasting Panel
After Jerry Lohr’s wife, Carol, passed away due to complications from breast cancer in 2008, Lohr and his children were inspired to partner with the National Breast Cancer Foundation; the resulting program, Touching Lives, promotes efforts around early breast cancer detection. Because the special vineyard this remarkable wine hails from was named for Carol (Lohr acquired the site in 1984), $3 from the sale of every bottle supports the initiative. Winemaker Steve Peck created a stunning, densely textured red with aromas of cigar leaf and black fruit that lead to a sumptuous mouthfeel. Coffee bean, violets, leather, and black cherry engage in a sensuous dance on the palate as slate and creamy plum accentuate its bold lines.
The limited releases of J. Lohr Vineyard Series showcase the highest caliber fruit from carefully delineated small vineyard blocks that J. Lohr has farmed for decades. Our experience in our chosen appellations of Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands, Paso Robles, and Napa Valley leads to a true artisan partnership between our vineyard and production teams. The wines of the J. Lohr Vineyard Series match special sites to our winemakers’ specific stylistic visions.
Dark in the glass, with dense color extending to the rim. The aroma projects red currant and cassis layered with cedar. Firm and medium weight on the mid- palate with flavors of black cherry, mocha, and granite.
Named after Jerry Lohr’s late wife, this special 35-acre property in St. Helena is the source for this limited-release, classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A $3 donation is made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® for every bottle sold.
