Additional Information

To make Grand Cheval they take the best characteristics of two very different varietals, Syrah from the Walla Walla Valley, and their own Pinot Noir grapes from the Dundee Hills, and blend them in perfect harmony to create their own version of the ideal “steakhouse wine.” This wine is substantial enough for the richest of dishes, yet soft enough to please any palate.

The aromas of the 2013 Grand Cheval burst from the glass with savory notes of wild game, dark chocolate and luscious dark fruits. This dense, velvety wine shows silky sleek tannins leading to cascading flavors of blueberries, blackberries and white pepper. On the palate, the Grand Cheval is supple and mouth-coating, with a long, powerful finish.

Tasting Notes

Critical Acclaim

WE93 - Wine Enthusiast
This unique blend of Dundee Hill Pinot Noir and Walla Walla Syrah seduces instantly with a bouquet redolent of smoke and licorice, tobacco and vanilla. Though it's Syrah that seems dominant, adding flavors of supple purple fruits to the aromatic mix, it seems apparent that the Pinot Noir component extends the finish, turning a potent and powerful wine into one that exits with delicacy and breeding.

JS91 - James Suckling
A chewy yet soft and polished red with tar and dark berries. Sliced mushrooms, too. Full, beautiful, very long and flavorful. A blend of pinot noir and syrah. Drink now or hold. Needs two or three years to soften.
