The company was founded in 1865 by a fellow whose ancestors had emigrated to Switzerland during the Huguenot persecutions. He returned to France and married a Burgundian lady of property. Camille Giroud took up residence at its present address in the late 1890s.

Tasting Notes
The 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, from the upper left part of the clos, has a much more backward, sultry nose compared to David Croix's other Grand Crus, touches of wild heather infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannins, quite compact at the moment, but there is appreciable density toward the masculine finish. Give this three or four years in bottle.
