The balanced wine features a brilliant ruby color, pleasant aromas of red fruits, smooth tannins and a lingering finish. Producer Information Boutari is a Greek wine producer known for pioneering the Naoussa appellation in the north of Greece. The estate was established well over a century ago in 1879 by Yiannis Boutari, who was the first Greek winemaker to bottle red wine and ship it abroad. Boutari is one of the top wineries in Greece, known for reviving and preserving native varieties and modernizing viticulture in the country. The company began in Naoussa, but has expanded production to include six wineries in some of Greece’s most famous wine regions, including Santorini, Crete, Goumenissa, Attika and Peloponnese. The estate also has a winery in southern France’s Languedoc region. Boutari is exported to more than 45 countries with wines made to express each region and variety’s unique characteristics. The winery produces wines from native varieties such as Moschofilero, Agiorgitiko, Kotsifali, Mantilari, Assyrtico and Negoska, but also produces international varieties including Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is credited with playing a decisive role in the preservation of Naoussa’s local Xinomavro variety, and Moschofilero from Mantinia, at times when viticulture in the country had almost been forgotten. It has played a critical role in the advancement of viticultural practices and has evolved Greek winemaking by adapting international techniques.
