The first of two whites from Godello grapes is the 2016 El Zarzal, produced with grapes from 15-year-old vines in Bierzo, which fermented in stainless steel and matured in 2,500-liter oak vats for eight months. It’s slightly riper than the other wine they bottled from Bierzo, but it’s still quite moderate in alcohol and has high acidity. There are notes of yellow fruit, and the oak is in the background, quite well integrated. The palate is soft and tasty, with salty minerality and moderate acidity. 8,818 bottles were filled in November 2017.

Tasting Notes
Expressive black cherry, currant, licorice, mineral and smoke mingle in this focused red. The texture is gentle but firm, like a school teacher; well-integrated tannins and racy acidity will make you think this is the Mrs. Robinson of wines.
