This is a fantastic NV Champagne with a fine, creamy texture of small barrels and a deep, layered palate with dried apple, hints of pie crust and bread dough. Tangy. Layered and powerful, yet fresh. Lovely Brut Champagne. Based on 2015. Chardonnay 50% pinot noir 25% and 25% pinot meunier. Producer Information Champagne Alfred Gratien was founded in 1864, a short distance away from the town of Epernay in Champagne. The house has remained a family business from its establishment, with four generations of the Jaeger family also taking on the responsibilities of the chef des caves since 1905. The estate comprises roughly 2 hectares (5 acres) of vines planted in premier cru and grand cru plots situated in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne. Most of its grape comes from around 100 growers who supply all three of the main grape varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Today, Alfred Gratien’s core range of cuvées includes Champagne Brut, Brut Nature, Brut Rosé, Millésimé, Blanc de Blancs vintage, Cuvée Paradis Brut, and Cuvée Paradis Rosé. The Brut Champagnes spend four years aging in-bottle prior to disgorgement and dosage, the Cuvée Paradis wines six to seven years, and vintage Champagnes a minimum of 10 years. Approximately 1,300,000 bottles are stored in the house’s chalk cellars. The Collection Memory is a range taken from the house’s wine library. The wines have aged for at least two decades, with the first releases being the 1996, 1997 and 1998 vintages.
