It was conceived as a restaurant line but, due to its popularity, production was increased to satisfy retailers as well. Fruit for the 14 Hands reserve range is sourced from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, and the name refers to the measurement of horses – specifically to the height of mustangs. 14 Hands produces a wide catalogue of wines split between a reserve range and a more value-driven range.The value range carries the broader Columbia Valley designation. In 2014, the 14 Hands label took over the Snoqualmie winery in Prosser, Washington. Snoqualmie, also owned by Chateau Ste. Michelle, relocated its production facilities to the Columbia Crest winery.
