Founders Maria and Filippo Casella relocated to Australia in 1957 and began to producing wine in the 1960s. Yellow Tail was formed as a brand to sell wines produced from grapes that Casella had previously sold to other companies for bulk wine production. The name is derived from the yellow-footed wallaby which also features on the wine labels.
