Ross and Barbara Lawson founded Lawson's Dry Hills in 1992 in Marlborough, New Zealand,. The couple had been growing wine grapes on their Alabama Road vineyard since 1980 and decided to start producing their own wines. Ross was a founding member and driving force behind the New Zealand Screwcap Wine Seal Initiative, which promoted the closure now widely adopted by the New Zealand wine industry. Sadly, Ross passed away in 2009. The company is now managed by Barbara Lawson and Sion Barnsley, General Manager. They are assisted by winemaker Marcus Wright, assistant winemaker Rebecca Wiffen and viticulturalist Mark Ludemann.\n\nThe wines are produced from sustainably farmed fruit grown on the estate and from grapes sourced from respected growers. The vineyards are planted on a wide range of soils – light stone, heavy loam, and clay-based soils in Marlborough's Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. The Gewurztraminer is recognized as one of the New Zealand’s finest and established Lawson’s Dry Hills on the national and international wine stage. Other plantings include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
