Producer Information Doubleback Winery is a Washington wine producer located in Walla Walla Valley, owned by former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe. It focuses on Bordeaux-style wines – particularly Cabernet Sauvignon – and has a portfolio of estate-grown and externally sourced fruit from vineyards in Walla Walla Valley and Columbia Valley. The winery was founded in 2007 when Bledsloe purchased the McQueen Vineyard. The estate's first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon was produced that same year with the help of Bledsoe's childhood friend and winemaking consultant, Chris Figgins of Figgins Family Wine Estates. The McQueen Vineyard spans 20 hectares (50 acres) of land, planted to some 6ha (14 acres) of vines. The site is primarily planted to Cabernet Sauvignon for the estate's flagship Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon, but includes blocks of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec for blending. The soils are composed of glacial loess over fractured basalt. Other vineyards within the estate's holdings include the Bob Healy, Flying B and Lefore vineyards. Doubleback release a limited quantity of the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon each vintage. The wine is produced with small percentages of Petit Verdot and Malbec and ages for 22 months in French oak barrels, 75 percent new. Doubleback also produces a red Bordeaux-style blend, a rosé from Columbia Valley, and a Syrah – Viognier blend from Walla Walla and Columbia Valley fruit.
