This structured wine is firm with tannins, with fruit weight in the background. Solid and firm, it's dense and full of blackberry flavors. Richness and concentration are setting it on a path for aging. Producer Information Domaines Alain Aubert is a wine company with a range of different estates encompassing 250 hectares (618 acres) of vines in Bordeaux. The company was founded by Bernadette Faure and Alain Aubert and today makes a portfolio of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur and Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines. In total, Aubert have five different labels – Château German, Château Hyot, Château Ribebon, Château Macard and Château Haut-Gravet. Château German comprises 56ha (138 acres) of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vines within the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The estate has been planted to vine since the 18th century and now produces a Merlot-predominant Bordeaux blend that ages for 12-24 months. The equally historic Château Hyot in Castillon was the site where the Hundred Years War between France and England finally came to a close. Its grand vin is made from 70 percent Merlot, 20 percent Cabernet Franc and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the vineyard's 40ha (99 acres) of sandy-gravel and clay soils. Château Ribebon is an 80-ha (198-acre) Bordeaux Supérieur estate boasting an 18th century château once used as a hunting lodge by King Louis XVI of France. The estate is best known for its Merlot-dominant grand vin produced from its 40-year-old vines. The second of Domaines Alain Aubert's Bordeaux Supérieur estates, Château Macard, is situated on a rock and limestone plateau above the Dordogne river. The 30ha (70 acres) of vineyards are mainly planted to Merlot, which sit alongside smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Château Haut-Gravet is the sole Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate within the Domaines Alain Aubert portfolio. The château lies below the hillside town of Saint-Émilion and produces a range of three Bordeaux blends. Alain Aubert is also the proprietor of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate, Château La Couspaude.
