Deep garnet in color, intoxicating aromas of purple fruits and wild flowers are underscored by notes of cherries, roses, and baking spices. On the palate, it is elegant, with a long spicy finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Castello di Neive is wine producer, located in the commune of Neive in northwest Italy's Langhe region. Approximately 25ha (62 acres) of the estate is devoted to Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba and Dolcetto d'Alba to produce around 12,000 cases of wine per year. The Stupino family purchased the estate, including the 18th Century castle for which the estate is named in 1964, as well as further plots of land in and around the town of Neive. Substantial renovation work was carried out on the castle's historic cellars and vineyards. Today Castello di Neive has eight vineyards, covering : Santo Stefano, Messoirano, I Cortini, Montebertotto, Marcorino, Basarin, Valtorta and Gallina. These vineyards are planted to white grape varieties like Arneis, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Pinot Bianco, along with some of Piedmont's signature red grape varieties including Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Grignolino and the lesser-known Albarossa. The estate has long been a proponent of Arneis, working on a clonal selection programme with the University of Turin in the late 1970s. Castello di Neive's experimentation with the grape has resulted in its single-vineyard Langhe Arneis wine from the Montebertotto site. Castello di Neive also produces several other single-vineyard wines, including the Santo Stefano Barbaresco Riserva, and the Langhe Pinot Nero, I Cortini. Castello di Neive's more unusual Albarossa offering was first released to market in 2000.
