The company is owned by the Bottega family, with Barbara, Sandro and Stefano Bottega currently at its head. Aldo Bottega founded the Distilleria Bottega distillery in Pianzano di Godega, Veneto, in 1977. The company specialized in the production of grappa and after Aldo Bottega's death in 1983, his wife Rosina Zambon Bottega took full control of Distilleria Bottega. In 1987, the company added the Alexander brand to its portfolio of grappas, branching out into the making of Prosecco in 1992. A new head office was established in Bibano di Godega in 2002 and was extended seven years later with the construction of a grappa distillery and a winery dedicated to the production of Prosecco and other sparkling wines. Between 2009 and 2011, Distilleria Bottega purchased two further wineries – one in Valpolicella for the production of Amarone della Valpolicella, Recioto della Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, Valpolicella Classico and Classico Superiore wines, as well as another winery in Montalcino for the making of Tuscan Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. This period of development continued with the rebranding of Distilleria Bottega to Bottega S.p.A in 2013. Today, the company produces wines and spirits under two brands: Bottega and Alexander. The extensive Bottega portfolio includes still wines from Chianti Classico to Soave, sparkling wines like Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco, spumante Oltrepo Pavese and aromatized frizzante wine, as well as grappa and limoncello. The Alexander range, in contrast, is solely devoted to grappa and vodka. Bottega S.p.A has installed systems to reduce water and energy consumption in the winery in order to reduce its environmental impact. On top of this, the company planted several new, organically farmed vineyards in 2007.
