A very pure and beautiful red with cherry and strawberry. Subtle spice, such as nutmeg and cedar. Orange peel, too. Medium to full body. Firm, silky tannins melt nicely into the wine. Fresh and clean finish. A little tight at the end. A beautiful single-vineyard Chianti Rufina with structure.\n \n Producer Information\n \n Fattoria Selvapiana is a Tuscan wine producer situated in the area of Chianti Rufina. The estate is credited as being one of the first in Tuscany to create a riserva wine entirely based on the Sangiovese grape variety. The estate was acquired by the Giuntini family in 1827. The Selvapiana property was originally constructed as a watch tower to safeguard the city of Florence, and was later converted into a holiday residence for the city's elite. Francesco Giuntini inherited the estate in 1957, and was responsible for the production of Selvapiana's first vintage of its flagship single-vineyard Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale wine in 1979. Today, the 250 hectare (618 acre) estate is managed by Francesco Giuntini's sons, Federico and Silvia, with 58ha (143 acres) of vineyards extending over the municipalities of Rufina, Pontassieve and Pelago. These vineyards are farmed organically, and typically occupy west-facing clay and limestone slopes at altitudes of 490 to 660 feet (150 to 200 meters) above sea level. Selvapiana's prized Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale wine is only made in excellent vintage years. It is sourced from Sangiovese grapes cultivated at the 13ha (32 acre) Bucerchiale vineyard in Rufina. The oldest vines were planted on southwest-facing slopes in the late 1960s, with newer plantings added in the early 1990s. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using natural yeasts before the barrel-aging in small French casks. The estate also produces a Sangiovese-predominant Chianti Rufina wine, a Merlot – Cabernet Sauvignon – Cabernet Franc blend and a 100 percent Syrah wine under the IGT Toscana designation.
