It was founded in 1999 by Alvaro de Alvear, CEO of Alvear Group for more than 40 years and belonging to one of the oldest wine families in Spain, producing wines since 1723. Today, Vina Santa Maria is a family project producing boutique wines in an outstanding environment: an extension of 200 hectares, dragged at the foot of the Sierra de la Moneda, with 80 hectares of perfectly preserved Mediterranean forest with holm oaks, cork oaks, olive trees, jars and a vast variety of shrubs that embellish this estate. They are one of the few wineries producing a 100% Viognier late harvest and were the first winery in Spain to produce a blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
