Santa Margherita is synonymous with Pinot Grigio to most. Although the brand is proud to have paved the way for this varietal, its roots began with Prosecco as they were one of the first wineries to produce prosecco from the Glera grape in the 1950s, the heart of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG.\n \n Brilliant silver with the finest perlage. Cool on the nose, delicate green apple, sea salt, citrus. On the palate with a precise course and steely fruit, sparse and sparkling clean, remains bone-dry in the finale.\n \n Producer Information\n Santa Margherita is an Italian wine producer with wineries and vineyards located around Italy, in places like Veneto, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, Alto Adige, Lombardy, Franciacorta, Chianti Classico, Maremma and Sicily. The estate was founded in 1935 by Gaetano Marzotto, and today is widely renowned for its popular Pinot Grigio wines. In fact, the company has been credited with creating the variety's signature light, crisp style. In 1965, Santa Margherita applied traditional white winemaking methods to the pink Pinot Grigio grapes. The result was a wine that was quite different to those made from Pinot Gris elsewhere. The iconic Pinot Grigio from Valdadige is now distributed to 85 countries and has been the market leader for the variety for more than 50 years. To produce the brand's most well-known white wine, Pinot Grigio juice is softly pressed off the skins so as not to take on a rusty color, and is then fermented for 10 to 15 days. After fermentation, the wine is stored in temperature-controlled stainless steel until bottling. On top of the Pinot Grigio, Santa Margherita has an extensive portfolio of white, red, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines from various DOC, DOCG, and IGT Italian wine regions. These are made from a range of local and international grape varieties including Chardonnay, Glera, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Teroldego and Refosco.
