Our 2023 Rose of Pinot Noir is produced exclusively from our estate Fog Dance Vineyard planted to Dijon 115 in the Green Valley of the Russian River Valley AVA. The wine is produced by gently pressing Pinot Noir grapes to avoid extraction of any color from the skins. The wine has a beautiful light salmon hue and brighter fruit characteristics because of this delicate approach.
The juice was fermented in small stainless steel tanks at cold temperatures to maintain bright fruit characters, with a small amount of the juice finishing fermentation in seasoned French oak barrels for a touch of richness and complexity.
Founded in 1994 by Don and Jennifer Hartford, the Hartford Family Winery resides in a French-style chateau in the town of Forestville, in the southwestern Russian River Valley. The winery specializes in small lots of vineyard-designated wines of high personality. The wines are labeled with two distinct marks: Hartford Court for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Hartford for old-vine Zinfandel from the Russian River Valley. In recent years, Hartford Family Winery has produced over 25 single-vineyard wines from discrete vineyard blocks from extraordinary vineyard sites extending from Sta. Rita Hills in California north to Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon. Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1994 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of our vineyard sources, the limited production of our bottlings and the varietals we use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that we believe applies to people and grapevines and surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both.
