Ripe red- and black-fruit aromas precede herbaceous notes on this red made with organic grapes. Savory black-fruit flavors alongside good acidity lead to a medium finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Chakana Wines is an Argentine winery situated in Agrelo. This district is is widely considered to provide some of the best terroir in Mendoza for the growing and production of Malbec. The Chakana winery now comprises of 80 hectares (200 acres) of land and manages vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo, Uco Valley and Mendoza. In 2012, Chakana vineyards made the switch to biodynamic and organic farming prioritizing soil health and biodiversity. Aside from Malbec, the Chakana vineyards are planted with a broad range of grape varieties. The list of supporting red varieties includes Bonarda, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. White grapes are Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. When making the wine, the winemakers avoid excessive use of sulphur while using the indigenous yeasts. The wine then ferments in stainless steel tanks or cement vats. Selected wines see some aging in French oak. Key product lines include the Chakana Estate Selection and the Nuna Vineyard range. Both of these include a Malbec and a Bonarda, as well as some red and white blends. The business was founded in 2002 by the Pelizzatti family. Their ancestors left Italy for Argentina at the beginning of the 19th Century.
