A wine with an intense aroma, complex and appealing. A blend of aromas that is, on one hand, remarkably fruity yet, on the other, shrubby. On the palate, it has very well-integrated tannins and a good acidity that result in an incredibly appetising wine.\n \n Producer Information\n \n Herdade de Peso is a dream come true for Fernando Guedes, the son of Sogrape’s founder. Right from the outset, he dared to make a different wine in the fiercely traditional Alentejo, which is so set in its ways. The journey began in 1992, when our intrepid Sogrape spirit led us to create a red wine in the land where white wines predominated. In 1997, we reaffirmed our commitment by purchasing the property and starting the construction of the first winery. Decades of experimentation and continuous learning from the results of microzoning studies have occurred since then. Viticulture, oenology and R&D all work together to identify soil properties of each plot and choose the grape varieties and clones best suited to them. Because of our respect for nature, we invested early on in resource conservation by building a 20-hectare reservoir dam to store rainwater. From 2010, we consolidated our commitment to the site, with an oenology team dedicated solely to the project, led by winemaker LuÃs Cabral de Almeida. This was followed by partial replanting, and we now have 160 hectares of vineyards of unrivalled quality. In 2022, we completed the new winery and now enjoy the visible progress in the 42-hectare vineyard planted recently. The new facilities allow us to focus our attention on the detail that creating fine wines demands, while giving scope to the scale, rigour and sustainability that the premium range deserves. The fourth generation of the family is now clearing the path towards a more sustainable future. Third-generation Mafalda Guedes reflects on how the dream of Fernando Guedes, her grandfather, has become the essence of a place now revealed to the world. And on how his dream has gained ground and gained gravitas with the passage of time. She marvels at how the landscape has been interpreted from his deep-seated desire to make the best use of every bit of it. Her letter to her grandfather neatly encapsulates these thoughts.
