This wine has very pleasant and lovely aromas. On the palate it is very elegant, rich and full-bodied.\n \n Producer Information\n Domaine Arlaud is a family-owned wine producer based in Morey-Saint-Denis, in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits subregion. Also known as Domaine Arlaud Père & Fils, it is best known for its Pinot Noir vineyards both in Morey and in neighboring Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. These include holdings in the Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, and Bonnes-Mares grand cru sites. In 1949, Joseph Arlaud acquired vineyard land as a wedding gift and, over time, was able to extend the family holdings and purchase the estate's headquarters – a 14th-Century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges – in 1966. Vinification and barrel-aging, however, take place in a modern cellar in Morey-Saint-Denis. Joseph Arlaud was succeeded by son Hervé and wife Brigitte in 1982. Latterly, their children, Cyprien, Romain and Bertille, have all taken a hand in the running of the estate with Cyprien taking over management in 2013. Domaine Arlaud owns 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyard land and, after establishing organic farming in the vineyards in 2004, became the first certified biodynamic estate in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2014. Bertille Arlaud also manages Auxois horses used to plough both the family domaine and those of other estates. Grapes are picked by hand, sorted twice, and destemmed, although a portion of whole bunches is retained. Like many domaines in the region, after being placed in tankm grapes undergo a pre-ferment cold maceration before fermentation is allowed to kick-off with naturally occurring yeasts. Pumpovers, or "remontage", during fermentation are the standard at Arlaud, with "pigeage" (punchdowns) rarely used. The wines spend 14-16 months in barrel and the proportion of new oak used depends on vintage and appellation. Village appellation wines age in roughly 15 percent new oak whereas grand cru wines age in up to 30 percent new oak. Domaine Arlaud has an impressive portfolio consisting mainly of Pinot Noir but also produces some Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligoté labels. The estate produces eight premier cru wines on top of its four grand cru wines. Top holdings include 1.1 hectares (2.7 acres) in Charmes-Chambertin, 0.4 hectares (one acre) in Clos de la Roche, roughly 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres) each in Clos Saint-Denis and Bonnes Mares. Arlaud also has – among numerous other plots – 0.7 hectares (1.7 acres) in the Morey premiers crus of Aux Cheseaux and Les Ruchots, as well as 0.4 hectares (one acre) in Les Millandes and just under 0.3 hectares (0.7 acres) in Les Blanchards. Further afield, the winery has plots in Gevrey-Chambertin's Premier Cru Aux Combottes as well as Les Chatelots, Les Noirots and Les Sentiers in Chambolle-Musigny.
