It was established in 1998 by Nick and Yolyn Goldschmidt. The Goldschmidt portfolio consists of a range of single-vineyard wines, each of which has a corresponding wine called "PLUS", which comes from the very best parcels in the vineyard. Included in the portfolio are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines named after the Goldschmidt's three daughters: Chelsea, Hilary and Katherine. These grapes are grown in vineyards situated in Dry Creek Valley, Oakville and Alexander Valley, respectively. The estate's extensive wine portfolio is not only limited to vineyards in the US. Goldschmidt Vineyards' range of brands includes Forefathers, Guidepost, and El Chaco. These labels draw on grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc and are sourced from vineyards across Argentina, Chile and New Zealand. Grapes are sourced from two key sites in the Alexander Valley and Oakville appellations. The Game Ranch Vineyard in Oakville sits atop an old river bed of rocky, well-draining soils of volcanic clay and gravelly loam. In comparison, the Yoeman Vineyard in Alexander Valley occupies a northeast-facing terraced slope of gravelly loam soils, and was first planted to vine in 1988.
