This wine has a beautiful garnet color. There are berry aromas of cassis, red currant and blueberries on the nose complimented by underlying notes of cocoa, fresh herbs and tobacco spice. The palate is packed with sweet berry fruit, flavours of dark chocolate and briary fruit with hints of dried tobacco on the finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Tokara is a South African wine producer, located on the Simonsberg side of the Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch. It produces a portfolio of wines focused on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The flagship wine from the estate is the Tokara Telos, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend with small portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is barrel-aged for 22 months in French oak of which approximately 60 percent are new. The wine is sourced from a single plot of vines on the estate that was planted in 1998. The remaining portfolio is split into three collections: the Tokara Premium is blended from mulitple sites, the Tokara Reserve is a collection of single-vineyard wines and the Tokara Directors Reserve is the icon range from the very best and most expressive parcels of vines. Estate vineyarda are planted on weathered sandstone and decomposed granite with an elevation of 350 to 550 meters (1148 to 1804 feet). An additional vineyard in Elgin is the soucre for Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Here, a cool-climate and predominantly Table Mountain sandstone-based soil creates ideal terroir for viniculture. The winery has won numerous awards for its architectural design with the estate also containing a fine art gallery and sculpture garden.
