Bodegas Los Frailes winery is a surprising combination of tradition and modernity. Our winery covers an area of 10.000 m2. There is an old buried cellar built before the century XVIII and a new cellar built in 2000 with the most state-of-the-art technology vinification process. In 2006 we have just finished a barrel hall with capacity for 600 barrels and a new bottling plant with the most advantages technologies. At Bodegas Los Frailes we control the entire process from vine to bottle. We only produce wine coming from our own grapes. The later in combination with our constant improvement of the work in our vineyards and our enological team’s experience, make it possible for us to obtain vintages that are constant in quantity and quality.Bodegas Los Frailes Estate occupies over 130 hectares of terrain located in the valley ‘Els Alforins’. Our main grape variety is the Monastrell, a variety traditionally planted in ‘Els Alforins’ region, which was partially lost during the last century as a consequence of the growth of more popular varieties (e.g Cabernet Sauvignon). Our main goal is the reintroduction of the Monastrell combined with the incorporation of new varieties( Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Maselan, Shiraz, Garnacha) to raise the unique personality of our wines.60% of the estate is planted with Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and the other 20% compounded by Tempranillo, Marselan, Shiraz, Garnacha. We have a wide variety of soils spread out on hillsides, ranging in altitude from a maximum 800 meters down to the bottom of the valley. The average age of the vineyards is over 25 years old, including vineyards of Monastrell variety with more than 40 years old.
Few Spanish Cabernets are excellent, but this one from the Valencia region makes the grade. A brambly nose packed with dark-berry aromas, heat and a touch of raisin sets up a saturated palate with hard tannins. Oaky, toasty black plum and blackberry flavors are painted with wood spice notes, while this is quite dry and persistently tannic on the finish.
