Pale straw in color with green hues. Natural ferment characters dominate the nose leading to peach, melon and ripe stone fruits. Stone fruits are initially dominant on the palate with hints of lemon rind and pineapple, leading to a creamy custard apple finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Yalumba is a family-owned winery, located in the Barossa Valley of South Australia. It was founded by Samuel Smith in 1849, making it one of the oldest wineries in Australia. Yalumba takes its name from the Aboriginal word for "all the land around". The company's vineyards are found in the Barossa and Eden valleys which produce a portfolio of more than 40 different wines. After releasing an inaugural vintage in 1853, Yalumba is now at the forefront of the Australian wine industry, making wines from classic Australian grapes like Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. This includes old-vine wines, single-varietal wines, tawy ports and the Fine and Rare collection as well as an organic range and their entry-level Y series. The Fine and Rare Collection is the pinnacle of the expressions in the Yalumba portfolio and encompasses single-varietal and blended releases. In the mid 1990s, Yalumba began developing its own sustainable viticulture programme, not just in the vineyards but also in the winery and packaging. As part of this sustainable philosophy Yalumba has planted at least a hectare of biodiverse and natural vegetation for every hectare under vine. The winery was the first in the world to receive the Climate Protection Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2007. Yalumba also has its own clonal nursery where specialist varietals, clones and rootstocks are developed. Yalumba is also part of an organisation known as Australia's First Families of Wine, a group of 10 family-owned wineries committed to excellence in the Australian wine industry. Together, the group has more than 12,400 acres (5000ha) of vineyards and approximately 1200 years of winemaking experience. Henschke, d'Arenberg and Brown Brothers are also part of the group.
