The palate is equally restrained. There's power here, but it's held firmly in check by taut, drying tannins. Savory, earthy notes are prominent, but the concentrated red fruit shares the stage with ease.\n \n Producer Information\n Angove is one of South Australia's most prominent wine producers. Located in the McLaren Vale subregion, it is one of the largest privately owned wine companies in the country. The company was founded by William Angove, a doctor and English immigrant who arrived in 1886. He began producing wine as a remedy for his patients, before planting his own vines – 4 hectares (10 acres) in the Adelaide foothills in 1892. The flagship of the Angove wine portfolio is an old-vine Shiraz from McLaren Vale called The Medhyk – its name a tribute to doctor William Angove. Today, the company is managed by the fifth generation of the Angove family. Angove has major vineyard holdings and a cellar door in both the McLaren Vale and the Riverland viticultural areas. In 1910, Angove were the first to establish a winery and distillery in the Riverland region and today, owns one of the biggest vineyards in the southern hemisphere in Renmark. It totals a massive 480 hectares (1186 acres) and is planted to over 18 different grape varieties. Angove produce a large portfolio of wines, encompassing many different styles and grape varieties under multiple brands. A majority of which are designed to be approachable with affordable and high-quality wines that are suited to a broad range of consumers. Shiraz and Chardonnay are the two major varieties produced. The Angove organic range is primarily sourced from the Riverland and includes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Merlot as well as a rosé produced from Shiraz amoungst others. The Lost Farm brand is sourced from multiple external growers from Tasmania where a cool climate provides the ideal growing conditions for the range of sparkling wines and varietal Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
