A setting made with the green of the fields, not just the vineyards, and the blue of the sea. Quinta da Chocapalha is located in this undulating area, which leads down to the Tagus. The road, which comes from Aldeia Galega da Merceana, has a charm of its own, ornamented by centenary and large trees. However, not everything was adjusted to the objectives that the Tavares da Silva family had in mind, which led Paulo Tavares da Silva to dedicate himself diligently to his study. He also wanted to listen to older people from the villages, who know the secrets of the area's nature. Since the beginning, the project has been based on taking advantage of the best of tradition, adding knowledge and the most modern technologies.Although it has long been recognized as having the potential to produce great wines, that objective has been changing. When the Tavares da Silva family arrived at Quinta da Chocapalha, the varieties planted with a view to obtaining production were in poor condition. Restructuring the vineyard was inevitable to fulfill the objective of being able to produce wines that better reflect the special terroir of this estate. Here, the cultivation of vines is ancient, dating back to the time of the Roman occupation. Even during the Muslim period wine continued to be made in this territory. Over the centuries, the town charters around Alenquer referred to it as an important part of the local economy.
