On the palate, the wine is powerful, but with a silken finesse, with a core of succulent red and black fruit flavors that echo the nose, all of which is seasoned by a persistent mineral acidity that carries the flavors through a seemingly endless finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Proprietà Sperino is a winery near the town of Lessona in Piedmont, Northern Italy. Its wine range is focused on the Nebbiolo grape variety. There are four products in total, beginning with the Lessona DOC red which is pure Nebbiolo. The Uvaggio Coste della Sesia DOC adds some Vespolina and Croatina. The Rosa del Rosa which is a Nebbiolo-dominant rosé with a touch of Vespolina and the Grappa di Lessona which is distilled using the bain-marie method. The estate is owned by Paolo de Marchi who inherited the it from his grandfather. Paolo de Marchi is considered one of Tuscany's finest winemakers and additionally owns Isole e Olena which produces very highly-regarded Chianti Classico. With the help of his elder son, Luca, Paolo has restored Proprietà Sperino back to a fully functioning wine estate. In 1999, Paolo and Luca started work on the restoration and by 2006 the first vintage, a 2004, was released. The vineyards cover eight hectares with plots in the Belvedere, Ormeggio, Castagnola, Rava, Covà and Madonna degli Angeli vineyards. Most of the vineyards have yellow sandy soils and are managed using traditional methods with little in the way of herbicides or chemical fertilizers. This traditional approach also extends to the winemaking with vinification and fermentation taking place largely in tanks with the wine then aged in both barrel and then bottle.
