VINEYARD
The Sneak fruit comes from our estate ranch at the bottom of Sonoma Valley on the western side of Carneros on an east-facing slope. The 2022 growing season was warm and challenging. We had an early budburst and a warm summer. A medium crop was on the vines, as they were still recovering from multiple drought years. Early morning sunshine and cloudy afternoons meant longer hang-time.
WINEMAKING
Picked at full ripeness and at first light, each lot was flushed out by Henry. After destemming, must pumped into separate closed-top tanks to extract flavor and tannin. Fermentation began naturally. The wine was pumped over three times a day at the beginning of ferment before being reduced to once a day to allow it to evolve on skins. Each variety was tasted daily until the flavors 'popped', varying in time from 12-24 days before being pressed and transferred to barrels where it spent 15 months on 40% French oak to age and soften before final blending and bottling.
